The company is engaged in the manufacture of electrical materials and wholesale of sound apparatus. The company was incorporated in 1962. The registered head office of the company is located in Girona, Spain. In 1933, the Pla Mir brothers, Manel and Joaquim, who used to work in repairing the newcomer radios, decided to start their own radio production due to a great demand in the market. The Pla brothers run a small family business located in central Girona. However the Spanish Civil War put the business on hold up until the middle of 1945. Strong foreign competition and above all, the first colour TV sets which arrive in 1975 caused the ending of TV sets manufacturing. It redirected the company towards their main core business and speciality: sound amplification. The first expansion of the business took place in 1946, with the construction of new industrial premises in the outskirts of Girona where radio receivers, amplifiers and loudspeakers were manufactured. The new building site was approximately 4.500 m2, half of which were constructed. All the company's products comply with the EC standards, both for Electrical Safety and for Electro Magnetic Compatibility (E.M.C.). OPTIMUS, S.A., moreover, is certified as per the ISO-9001 standard. The company's products and systems of the OPTIMAX series have been tested by the TÜV laboratories and have passed successfully the EN-60849 tests.
